The Scholastic Staff Association of College (ASUU) has suspended its 8-month-old modern activity restrictively.
The choice to cancel the strike has all the earmarks of being an aftermath of the long-distance race Public Leader Council (NEC) meeting of ASUU which was held at the association’s secretariat in Abuja from Thursday, October 13, to the early long periods of Friday, October 14.
As indicated by a checked Stations TV report, this was affirmed by an individual from ASUU’s NEC, albeit an authority declaration with the impact is as yet being anticipated.
The gathering was called by the administration of the association to decide its following line of activity after its different branches met and pondered on the Court of Allure management a week ago.
The Court of Allure had requested the striking speakers to suspend the strike before its allure of the decision ordering instructors to continue work could be heard.
Individuals from the association’s Public Chief Board of trustees, which contains the administrators of the state sections and individuals from the public leader, went to the gathering at the ASUU Public Secretariat in Abuja.
There had been before reports that the different parts of ASUU had been isolated on the association’s next line of activity with some of them casting a ballot to suspend the strike, while some likewise were supportive of expanding the 8-month-old modern activity.
ASUU had been protesting since February 14, 2022, to squeeze home their unsettled requests on the national government.
This is a creating story…

The National Emergency Management Agency on Thursday in
Lagos received 126 Nigerians who had been stranded in Libya
as they returned home.
The agency’s acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial
Office, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the development to
the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
Farinloye, who represented the Director General, Alhaji
Mustapha Ahmed, said the Nigerians were received at the
Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at
about 4.22pm.
He said the returnees, who arrived aboard a Boeing 700-787
Al Buraq Air with registration number 5A-DMG, were brought
back to the country by the International Organisation for
Migration through a voluntary repatriation programme.
Farinloye said the programme was meant for the distressed
Nigerians who had left the country to seek greener pastures in
various European countries but could not afford to return when
their journey became frustrating.
He said the returnees brought back comprise 46 male adults,
62 female adults, two male and six female children, as well as
four female and six male infants.
The acting coordinator urged Nigerians to be wary of close
associates, family friends or neighbourhood elders who
deceive with sweet talks of a better life in foreign countries.

• Court says IPOB leader’s abduction unlawful, slams executive
for recklessness
There was wild jubilation in the South-East on Thursday
following the Court of Appeal judgment which quashed the
terrorism charges preferred against the leader of the outlawed
Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
Across parts of the South-East states, people celebrated
openly on hearing the reports that the court had discharged
Kanu who has been in custody since June 2021 when he was
arrested in Kenya and brought to Nigeria to face prosecution
for leading an outlawed organisation and clamouring for the
Republic of Biafra.
However, there are strong indications that the Federal
Government may appeal the judgment of the Court of Appeal.
A senior official in the Ministry of Justice confided in our
correspondent that the government would study the ruling and
take a decision on it.
“All options are on the table; we will study the order but we
will likely appeal it. The court only discharged him, it did not
acquit him,’’ the director stated.
Reacting, the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations,
Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister
of Justice, Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, in a statement said, “The
Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister
of Justice has received the news of the decision of the Court
of Appeal concerning the trial of Nnamdi Kanu. For the
avoidance of doubt and by the verdict of the Court, Kanu was
only discharged and not acquitted.

A total of 2,187 confirmed cases of cholera, including 233
deaths have been recorded in 31 states from January to
September 25, 2022, in the country.
This is according to the public health advisory published by the
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on its website on Thursday.
The advisory titled, ‘Stop Cholera: Strengthening Water,
Sanitation and Hygiene in Nigeria,’ noted that the outbreak of
cholera had been exacerbated by limited access to clean
water and sanitation facilities, open defecation, and poor
hygiene practices.
Cholera is a water-borne disease characterised by the sudden
onset of profuse watery diarrhoea, which can lead to sudden
death because of the rapid rate of dehydration if not managed
on time.
The advisory read in part, “The Nigeria Centre for Disease
Control is leading the national response to an ongoing
outbreak of cholera in affected states in Nigeria. A total of
2,187 confirmed cases of cholera have been reported from 31
states and 233 deaths were recorded from January 1 to
September 25, 2022.
“Following a recent increase in the number of cholera cases,
the multi-sectoral National Cholera Technical Working Group
in collaboration with partners has been supporting affected
states in risk communication, active case search, case
management, water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions. The
NCDC-led multi-sectoral TWG includes representation from the
Federal Ministries of Environment and Water Resources, the
National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the World
Health Organisation, the United Nations Children’s Fund and
other partners.
